Tips for Success: How to Work from Home and Overcome Procrastination

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly changed millions of people in the way of their lives and work. According to the IBM Study (2020), due to the pandemic, 54% of the respondents prefer to work from home permanently, and 75% prefer the option of work remotely occasionally.

However, remote workforces require more than a simple change of environment. It presents unique challenges and requires strong motivation for people to continue their E-learning and E-working effectively. How to overcome procrastination?  Here are some tips for you:

Tips #1: Set Micro-Steps

Many people procrastinate because they are afraid of failing, or feel incapable of finishing large projects they need to complete. Yet, large projects are composed of small strategies, goals, and plans. Look at the big picture, as long as you examine each part of the task and create a timeline for completing these tasks. Despite how heavy your workload is, start off by breaking things down into micro-steps will always help you to manage your projects.

Tips #2: Set Priorities

Productivity is the number one goal for just about everyone. By creating a to-do list for your work tasks, it will help you distinguish between essentials and non-emergent essentials tasks and complete those in a timely manner. Setting priorities and practicing time management will also help to establish a consistent and productive work routine.

Tips #3: Reduce Distractions

Working from home is nothing like physically operating in an office setting. Excess noise is one of the most common distractions. Your concentration may drag away by ambient traffic sounds or neighbor’s heavy metal music. The more distractions you have, the slower the work progress you will make. One simple tool to help you concentrate:  to use noise-cancelling earbuds. It simply helps to stimulate your focus.

Tips #4: Create a Reward for Yourself Working from home while practicing social distancing, can leave people a feeling of isolation and stress. This is also the reason why it is important to create a reward for yourself. After completing a small portion of the project, give yourself a payoff. This can be done by watching your favorite TV shows, chatting on social media, or other forms of communication with family members, friends and co-workers. And remember, to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
